H is 19 and a freshmen majoring in Graphic Design. We call her "mini me". I tell her she is the new and improved version of me. She is smart, creative and self confident. She is constantly looking for ways to give of herself and make life easier for others.
When the boys first came we had lady's night out every Saturday night for just the 2 girls and me. We would go out for a snack, go to a movie or go shopping. I generally gave them opportunity to vent about what was going on at home without judgment or comment. They needed that. I know having the boys added to our family has been stressful for the girls at times. I also believe it has made them stronger, more giving and a realization that our lives need to be bigger than just our own little world. There is a greater purpose than just self satisfaction and fun.
It is important to attend the events of our emotionally healthy children, to appreciate their efforts in school and at home and not take them for granted. It is easy to overlook all of the things they are quietly doing. If we don't notice, they may start to act out to get our attention. Keep them headed in a positive direction by appreciating their positive actions and attitudes.
